We are very lucky here in Texas. It is certainly one of the most homeschool-friendly states. Since anyone who wants the legalese version of what is allowed and what isn't could easily Google it or visit The Texas Homeschool Coalition website, I'll just be sharing an overview of the rules as I understand them. I consider it to be part of the job description as a homeschooling parent, to be up to date on current laws & requirements as they relate to homeschooling. That being said, I'm constantly learning new information.
STATE REQUIREMENTS:
Homeschools in Texas are able to operate as private schools.
There are no education requirements in place for parents to be able to homeschool.
There are no forms or paperwork that are required to be submitted or filed with any organization or department.
And the biggie - for our decision to homeschool at least -
Texas law does not require a home school to participate in any form of standardized testing or assessment!!
I am thankful every day that we found ourselves in Texas 10 years ago and decided to make it our home.
